Maryland's eCycling Legislation
*** NEW • NEW • NEW ***
(effective October 1, 2007 – Replaces Computer Recycling Pilot Program)
During the 2006 Maryland Legislative Session, Maryland's computer recycling program was altered. The altered program, "Maryland's Statewide Electronics Recycling Program", became effective on October 1, 2007.
Maryland's Statewide Electronics Recycling Program (Environment Article, Title 9 Water, Ice and Sanitary Facilities, Subtitle 17 Office of Recycling, Part IV Statewide Electronics Recycling Program) becomes effective on October 1, 2007. The law requires certain electronic manufacturers** to register with the Maryland Department of the Environment and pay a registration fee if they intend to sell covered electronic devices in Maryland on or after January 1, 2008.
**Manufacturer means the person that is the brand owner of a Covered Electronic Device sold or offered for sale in the State, by any means, including transactions conducted through sales outlets, catalogs, or the Internet. Covered Electronic Device means a computer or video display device with a screen that is greater than 4 inches measured diagonally. For further details refer to the text of the Statewide Electronics Recycling Program.
Additional information will be posted on this web page as it becomes available. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Hilary Miller, Program Manager, Recycling and Operations Program, by email or phone at 410-537-3314.
