Clean Commute Contest

Do employees at your organization walk, bike, rideshare or use transit to get to work?  Get recognized for these efforts by entering the Maryland Green Registry Clean Commute Contest, offered in partnership with Clean Air Partners.

To enter, complete the contest form, save it to your computer, and e-mail it as an attachment to MarylandGreen@mde.state.md.us.

The deadline for submissions is May 25, 2012 and winners will be announced June 5th at the Maryland Green Registry Membership and Awards Event at the Robinson Nature Center in Columbia, MD.

Clean Commute Contest Form

The contest form asks you to enter information into text boxes and then calculates for you the percentage reduction of employee commute miles from a baseline that assumes everyone drives to work alone.  To complete the form, you will need to know

1)       The number of employees at your organization,

2)       The average employee commute distance, and

3)       The number of employee roundtrips eliminated per week through walking, biking, ridesharing, use of transit, telecommuting or compressed work weeks

This information can be gathered through survey or through estimation.  For instance, for average employee commute distance, you might ask your human resources office to provide what they think the average commute distance might be.  It doesn’t have to be exact and if you don’t get a 100% response rate on a survey, go with what you have.  The point is to see where you are with the information you have.  You may be surprised at how many miles of travel your organization has reduced through alternative employee commute options or you may be motivated to do better.

For information about ridesharing and mass transit options in Maryland, visit the Transportation page under Maryland Green Registry Tips and Resources.
