Emission Reduction Credits Emission Reduction Credits (ERCs) are created when certain operating facilities shut down or voluntarily curtail their emissions. In general and as part of the permitting process, certain new or expanding facilities must obtain ERCs to offset the new or increased emissions prior to constructing or modifying the air pollution sources at the facility. Thus, ERCs created by the shut down or voluntary curtailment of one facility can be sold to another new or expanding facility. In September 2009, MDE compiled and sent out a list of available ERCs. In the future, the updated list will be posted on MDE's web page. Until then, the list will be updated on an as-needed basis, and sent to parties who have requested the information in the past. If you are interested in receiving this list, or having your certified ERCs included in the list, please forward your contact information to webmaster@mde.state.md.us. Within two (2) business days, MDE will respond to your email confirming receipt of your request. If you have any additional questions, please call (410) 537-3245 or (800) 633-6101 ext. 3245. Regulations regarding Emissions Reduction Credits are presented in COMAR 26.11.17. |
