Greenhouse Gas Inventory
The Maryland General Assembly passed the Greenhouse Gas Emissions Reduction Act, Senate Bill -SB 278 and House Bill - HB 315 in 2009, which is codified in Maryland Annotated Codes, Title 2, Subtitle 1203 . The Bill requires the Department of the Environment to publish and update an inventory of statewide greenhouse gas emissions for calendar year 2006 and requires the State to reduce statewide greenhouse gas emissions by 25% from 2006 levels by 2020. The State is also required to develop and adopt a specified plan, adopt specified regulations, and implement specified programs to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.
The Bill specifically mandates the Department of the Environment to prepare and publish an updated inventory of statewide greenhouse gas emissions for calendar year 2006 and develop a projected “business-as-usual” inventory for calendar year 2020 on or before June 1, 2011.
