Technical Assistance Programs to Green Your Business

The Maryland Department of the Environment offers free and low-cost technical assistance programs that help businesses and other organizations go beyond regulatory compliance and adopt a proactive approach to environmental management. These programs focus on pollution prevention or P2 measures that reduce pollution at the source through process, equipment and material changes that reduce waste, energy and water usage. On-Site Pollution Prevention Technical Assistance

Take advantage of a free, confidential assessment of your facility by engineers at the Maryland Manufacturing Extension Partnership. You’ll receive a report listing voluntary waste reduction, and energy and water conservation opportunities at your facility and an offer for further assistance in implementing them.



ISO 14001 Environmental Management System Implementation Assistance

Sixty Maryland manufacturers have participated in this valuable program that helps companies implement EMSs through workshops, assignments and on-site assistance.



Lean and Clean Assessments

Experts from the Maryland Manufacturing Extension Partnership will work with your company team to document, analyze, redesign, and plan specific activities to eliminate wasted energy, materials, and non-value adding activities throughout a selected product/process line.



Pollution Prevention Intern Program​

This program places engineering students at Maryland manufacturing facilities to research and implement cost-saving waste reduction and energy and water conservation opportunities.



Pilot Projects

Projects have included audits at hospitals to identify and reduce sources of mercury and certain PVC-type plastics, energy audits focusing on lighting and HVAC equipment, electronic plug-load studies, environmental performance assessments of hotel properties, the use of LaserPaint devices to improve the efficiency of paint application, the greening of minor league baseball stadiums, and an upcoming project on food waste reduction in both the food processing and food service industries,
