| Established by the State Legislature in the 2001 Session, the Governor's Office of Smart Growth was created to provide a "one-stop" shop on Smart Growth. Maryland's future depends on the State's ability to foster a better planned, more environmentally protective, more sustainable pattern of development for the decades to come. The Office of Smart Growth helps coordinate the activities of other agencies, provides education and information on Smart Growth to the public, and facilitates revitalization efforts in older cities and suburbs and the development of smart neighborhoods in new communities. Working in three specific areas, the Office of Smart Growth seeks to achieve the State's Smart Growth mandate. |
