The Maryland Department of the Environment’s Volunteer Corps & Internship Program (MDE VCIP) promotes and encourages retirees, high school students, and the citizens of Maryland an opportunity to volunteer.   The VCIP also offers internship opportunities for college and graduate students that are interested in gaining exposure and knowledge in the environmental profession.

MDE is changing how we work for the citizens of Maryland!  MDE has developed a volunteer base in order to better serve the citizens of Maryland.

If interested in volunteering at MDE, please read the following basic guidelines before completing this application.

Are you ready to volunteer at MDE?

  1. Volunteer positions require a commitment of a minimum of 8.0 hours a week;
  2. Volunteers must be 18 or older (exception: high school students who participate in the environmental science student award program or the summer volunteer program and have parental consent);
  3. Volunteer positions are only available during MDE Core hours; and
  4. Volunteers must adhere to MDE Policies and Procedures.
