Press Release

ANNAPOLIS, MD (January 7, 2004) – Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. announced Board of Public Works approval of a $100,000 grant for the Jennifer Run restoration project in Baltimore County.

“This stream restoration project will stabilize reaches of the stream, reducing embankment erosion while improving water quality and creating aquatic and streamside habitat,” Governor Ehrlich said.

The project will restore approximately 1,000 feet of Jennifer Run near Harford Road through application of fluvial morphological and hydraulic principles.

“This project will restore a stressed riparian ecosystem, improving water quality leading into the Gunpowder River and ultimately the Chesapeake Bay,” said Candace L. Croswell, an operation section manager in Baltimore County’s Department of Environmental Protection and Resource Management.

The total cost of the project is $495,000, the majority of which will be financed by Baltimore County. Today’s board action comes from the Water Quality Infrastructure Program administrated by the Maryland Department of the Environment.

Restoration of the stream is expected to begin by in June and is slated to be complete by the end of the year.
