HAGERSTOWN, MD (May 4, 2004) -- Maryland Department of the Environment (MDE) Secretary Kendl P. Philbrick invites the public to attend a ribbon-cutting and open house for MDE’s new Western Maryland Field Office that opened in a downtown Hagerstown earlier this year.

Secretary Philbrick will join MDE field staff, administration directors and other invited guests at 11 a.m. Friday (May 7) to officially open the new space located at 33 West Franklin Street, Suite 302.

“MDE’s field offices across the state provide the department with a link to the community,” Secretary Philbrick said. “By relocating to downtown Hagerstown, the office is easily accessible to the citizens and business clientele of western Maryland. At the same time we help preserve and revitalize the core of one of Maryland’s older communities.”

MDE’s western regional office is now located on the third floor of the Chevy Chase Bank building across from the U. S. Post Office. Personnel at the Hagerstown Office provide environmental permitting and compliance expertise for Allegany, Carroll, Frederick, Garrett, Montgomery and Washington counties.

The new telephone numbers for MDE’s western regional office are:

  • (301) 665-2810 - for waste and oil related issues;
  • (301) 665-2850 - for water and sediment control issues;
  • (301) 665-2860 - for air quality issues.
