Anne Arundel County To Receive Funding for Galloway Road Water Main Extension

ANNAPOLIS, MD (December 15, 1999) – A project to extend the public water distribution system to serve residents along Galloway Road in Anne Arundel County was approved today for a $65,000 grant from the Maryland Board of Public Works. The residents there are currently receiving bottled water for domestic use because of chemical contamination of their private wells.

"Water is one of our most precious resources, and we have an obligation to ensure that every community has a healthy water supply," said Governor Parris N. Glendening. "Extending the public water system in this community will ensure that the residents along Galloway Road in Anne Arundel County have access to safe and clean water."

The project, which includes design and construction of the water main extension, will also receive a $57,270 state loan and a $5,250 grant from Anne Arundel County. An additional benefit of the extension of the public water supply will be a fire protection with the installation of fire hydrants in the community. This project supports the Governor’s Smart Growth Initiative by providing public drinking water to a very small group of unserved homes in an already developed area of Anne Arundel County.

Chaired by Governor Glendening, the Board of Public Works also is comprised of Comptroller William Donald Schaefer and Treasurer Richard N. Dixon. The Board is empowered by the General Assembly to approve major construction and consultant contracts, equipment purchases, property transactions and other procurement actions.
