ANNAPOLIS, MD (August 5, 1998) -- A $7,687 grant to acquire two flood-prone homes in Federalsburg received State Board of Public Works approval today as part of the Comprehensive Flood Management Grant Program. The structures flooded above the first floor in 1935, 67, 75 and 94.
"We are committed to eliminating these flood-ravaged structures," said Governor Parris N. Glendening. "They pose a risk to the health and safety of their occupants as well as others downstream." Federalsburg will demolish the structures and convert the property to open space."
In addition to the State grant, the Federal Emergency Management Agency will contribute a grant of $46,125. The Town of Federalsburg will match the State's contribution, demolish the structures and convert the property into open space.
Chaired by Governor Glendening, the Board of Public Works also is comprised of Comptroller Robert Swann and Treasurer Richard N. Dixon. The Board is empowered by the General Assembly to approve construction and consultant contracts, equipment purchases, property transactions and other procurement actions.
