ANNAPOLIS, MD (May 27, 1998) -- A project to design and construct a new water supply system for the Town of Emmitsburg in Frederick County, received financial assistance today thanks to Board of Public Works approval of a $497,750 grant."When this project is finished, more than 2,100 residents of the Town of Emmitsburg will benefit from this project, which will provide new groundwater sources, a new water storage tank and a new water treatment facility," said Governor Parris N. Glendening.In addition to the State grant, Frederick County is contributing $804,250. Construction is expected to begin in November 1998 and be complete by April 2000."Emmitsburg's surface water is being treated by an antiquated facility that has had difficulty meeting drinking water standards," said Town Manager Yvette M. Kreitz. "The town greatly needs and appreciates the funds."Chaired by Governor Glendening, the Board of Public Works also is comprised of Comptroller Louis L. Goldstein and Treasurer Richard N. Dixon. The Board is empowered by the General Assembly to approve construction and consultant contracts, equipment purchases, property transactions and other procurement actions.
