Governor’s Press Release

ANNAPOLIS, MD (December 17, 1997) -- A project to upgrade and expand the Town of Trappe Wastewater Treatment Plant in Talbot County will soon receive a $300,000 supplemental grant thanks to Board of Public Works approval.

Chaired by Governor Parris N. Glendening, the Board of Public Works also is comprised of Comptroller Louis L. Goldstein and Treasurer Richard N. Dixon. The Board is empowered by the General Assembly to approve construction and consultant contracts, equipment purchases, property transactions and other procurement actions.

"This action is important because it will provide the wastewater treatment plant with phosphorus-removing capability and will expand the wastewater treatment capacity of the plant from 140,000 gallons per day to 200,000 gallons per day," said Governor Glendening. "The project also will rehabilitate the town's sewer system."

In addition to the State supplemental grant, the project previously received $1,817,250 in State grants and loans for a total project cost of $2,117,250. Construction will begin in April 1998 and will be completed in August 1999.

"I appreciate the financial help from the State," said Talbot County President Edgar Harrison. "It makes the Town feel easier about undertaking the project."
