Press Release

ANNAPOLIS, MD (June 5, 2003)– Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. announced Board of Public Works approval yesterday of a $100,000 grant for the White Marsh Run restoration project in southeastern Baltimore County.

“This stream restoration project will address channel erosion problems, improve water quality and restore a stressed riparian ecosystem,” Governor Ehrlich said.

The project will restore approximately 3,000 feet of the degraded main stem of White Marsh Run through application of fluvial morphological and hydraulic principles. The stream will be stabilized, reducing stream bank erosion, improving water quality and creating better aquatic and riparian habitat.

“This project will ultimately enhance and improve the well-being of the Chesapeake Bay by addressing a localized problem in the Bird River watershed,” said Chin Y. Lien, a section supervisor in Baltimore County’s Department of Environmental Protection.

The total cost of the project is $660,000, the majority of which will be financed by Baltimore County.

Restoration of the stream is expected to begin by in the summer of 2004 and is slated to be complete by the end of that year.
