Water Management Advisory Committee Holds Final Meetings

BALTIMORE, MD (April 20, 2004) – The next meeting of the Advisory Committee on the Management and Protection of the State’s Water Resources is scheduled for 9:15 a.m. Thursday, April 29 at the Maryland Department of the Environment’s headquarters, located at 1600 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore.

Review of the draft final report will be among the items discussed at that time.

The 21-member committee will make recommendations to Governor Robert L. Ehrlich, Jr. on the management, development, conservation and protection of the state’s water resources. The committee will also address the issue of water in the local planning process, which will be invaluable to counties and communities. Drought in recent years has reinforced the importance of properly managing Maryland’s water resources. The deadline for the body’s report to Governor Ehrlich is May 31.

The committee plans to hold its final meeting May 12 at the U.S. Geological Survey’s offices at 8987 Yellow Brick Road in Rosedale.

Governor Ehrlich appointed Dr. M. Gordon “Reds” Wolman as chairman of the committee earlier this year. Wolman, formerly chairman of the Department of Geography and Environmental Science at The Johns Hopkins University, is a nationally recognized expert on water issues.
