BALTIMORE, MD (March 14, 2006) – Maryland’s Advisory Committee on the Management and Protection of the State’s Water Resources will hold its next meeting March 23 in the Aeris/Aqua conference rooms on the first floor of the Maryland Department of Environment’s headquarters, located at 1800 Washington Boulevard in Baltimore. The meeting will begin at 9:30 a.m. Among agenda items to be discussed that day will be issue papers related to integrated water resources management, enforcement, the Potomac River, water allocation, and formatting of the interim report. Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr., whose executive order created the first Advisory Committee on the Management and Protection of the State’s Water Resources in 2003, established the successor committee last May to advise the state in implementing programs and policies for the long-term sustainable use and protection of the state’s water resources.The Advisory Committee on the Management and Protection of the State’s Water Resources is again chaired by Dr. M. Gordon “Reds” Wolman, formerly chairman of the Department of Geography and Environmental Science at The Johns Hopkins University and a nationally recognized expert on water issues.The Maryland Department of the Environment provides staff support to the advisory committee, which meets on a quarterly basis or more often if necessary. An interim report on the committee’s work must be sent to the Governor by July 1 while its final report will be due by July 1, 2008. The committee’s proceedings are open to the public.
