Governor’s “Bay Cabinet” Speaks at MEDA Fall Conference

Towson Maryland - Governor Robert L. Ehrlich Jr. announced today Board of Public Works approval of a loan up to $15.7 million and an $800,000 grant to upgrade the Elkton Wastewater Treatment Plant. Speakers will include Kendl Philbrick, Secretary of the Environment; Audrey Scott, Secretary of Planning; and Ronald Franks, Secretary of Natural Resources. Three focus sessions will look at specific water management issues, including the implementation of Tributary Strategies, including sewer/wastewater; House Bill 1141 – land use and local government planning; and water resources.

During the Maryland Economic Development Association (MEDA) Fall Conference participants will learn about the critical issue of “Growth and Water Management.” The conference will examine water adequacy issues from his unique political and business perspective. In 2006, the Maryland General Assembly passed and the Governor signed into law House Bill 1141, which requires local jurisdictions to include a water resources component in their land use plans. The State’s Tributary Strategy, which includes sewer and wastewater management components, is currently being implemented. Additional details about the conference are available at: www.medamd.com/.
