Maryland Drought Information and Current Status

Drought Status in Maryland Map As of March 15, 2016

A drought warning for the Central region, and a drought Watch for the Eastern Region of Maryland was declared at the end of February 2017.  Any time the drought status of a region is changed from Normal, a series of actions is triggered including more frequent evaluation of the hydrological indicators for the affected region. As a result of change of status for Central Region from Watch to Warning and Eastern Region from Normal to Watch, MDE initiated the evaluation of the hydrological indicators for the two regions on a biweekly basis instead of monthly evaluation performed during the normal status.

As of March 15, 2017, the biweekly evaluation reveals that the drought status in the Central and Eastern Regions remains the same.
