Introduction

This project is a 1.3 acre (0.3 acre forested, 1 acre emergent) wetland creation located in the West Chesapeake Bay Area (02-13-10-05) watershed of Anne Arundel County.        

Construction

In the fall 1994/spring 1995, the Nontidal Wetlands and Waterways Division, in cooperation with the Anne Arundel Soil Conservation District and the property owner, converted this agricultural area into a wetland.

Status

This site has established into a decent wetland system, with one of the dominant tree species being Bald Cypress. This site provides water quality improvement function and good wildlife habitat, as demonstrated by the Green Heron, Blue Heron, Grey Tree Frog, and Painted Turtle observed during a recent site visit.  Portions of the site are wetter than planned.  When MDE scored this site in 2009 using the newly developed Mitigation Site Scoring Method , the site received the score of 74/100.  This site is on private property.
